throwing self back

My son is 2 1/2 he always hits his head anywhere when he's mad especially during nap time he'll throw his body back and when he hits his head it scares the crap out of me because it's hard.Im always afraid he'll bust it open What's can I do I'm about to put a helmet on him

This is very scary, especially when you don't know when they're about it do it. At exactly the same age my son started hitting his head against the ground, even concrete :/ I read that this means they are having extreme emotions about something. For us it was shortly after my daughter was born. My son grew out of it after about 3 weeks and hasn't done it since. We just kept reassuring him that we loved him and asked if he wanted to talk to us about anything. Like I said he did grow out of it.
