Toddler car seat question...

My 2 1/2 year old (Cameron) is 41 inches long and about 45 pounds. My sister babysits my kids and has two toddlers of her own. When she puts them all in the car, there are three car seats (2 rear facing for her 1 year old and my 4month old and 1 forward facing for her two year old.) There is one more seat in the back row where she puts Cameron. The big forward facing seat doesn't fit back there so we put him in a booster seat. (They say booster seats are good for children over 40 in and 40 lb) It worked out fine until he learned how to un buckle the seatbelt while she was driving. Since he is all the way in the back row, she couldn't turn around and buckle it back unless she pulled over.

She posted the question on another forum where people suggested to put him in the front seat in the booster seat so that she could buckle him back if he were to unbuckle.

Is this safe? Does anyone know of a VERY slim seat with a 5 point harness?

Hey, I got a cheep car seat at walmart that was slim. I think it was 80 in Canada. I know at some stores you can get racing style booster seats that have a 5 point harness straps system. I know Safety 1st makes the Go Hybrid Convertible booster. Then there is Diono Radian RXT. Maybe try getting one that has the bar that goes across the lap as well. Then he really can't get out. I found a web site call Just go on google and type it in I found tons. Also go on walmart and toys r us websites or any other place you know of that has a website. But you have to remember that the standards have changed so it might be hard to find one also try second hand store or even ebay or other online shopping sites. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I think I will keep shopping for a slimmer 5 point. Unfortunately none of the car seats she has will fit in the back. Until I find a good seat we'll have to avoid putting all the kids in the car at one time.
Anyone selling a spacious suv in NYC area for a low low price?? Lol

Maybe she could switch her two year old into the back seat and yours into the seat with the rear-facing babies. Would that fit? If it's tight, he probably couldn't reach the belt to unbuckle, plus it would be faster to fix it if she has to pull over.

Having a child your sons age in a booster seat is dangerous even if he is big for his age; but being in the front seat is even worse. The airbag can and will kill him if there was an accident. I would keep researching a better car seat option.

Not safe at all to have him in a booster seat much less in the front seat with a booster seat. I'd have my 2.5 year old in a carseat for sure. We have a Britax boulevard, it's pretty slim and very safe. Good luck!
