my son seems to struggle when he is introduced to people, he wont greet them, wont even look at them, and this is beginning to really concern me. he is typically an active talkative child who gets along well with the people he knows but when he is faced with a new situation he just balks and behaves in a terrified manner. he screams whenever i leave him and he freaks out if he cant see me even at home. he has been like this for a while, a typically shy child and i kept thinking he would grow out of it but it seems to be worsening and i am getting worried. should i take him to phsycologist?? i have tried building his security by reassuring him to no avail. its beginning to concern me even more now as it affecting my younger daughter as she is copying her big brother....please help

Is he in any form of daycare/play groups/left with someone (as in sitter)? If not you may want to leave him with someone else for at least 2 hours at a time starting out, 2-3 days a week and go from there. If you can't do this, maybe get him in a class a day or 2 a week.
