Toddlers Say No to Mittens

My son is 19 months and he absolutely refuses to wear mittens. Any suggestions now that the cold weather is approaching?

my son hated his gloves last winter. he still hates his hat. i find that when he gets cold enough he will wear them. just wait until he gets upset at the cold and then put them on him. after a few times he will make the connection. i wouldn't recommend it for if your son is playing in snow, more for if he's just outside going somewhere

My daughter is 2 and a half. We went playing in the snow today. She insisted on taking her mittens off, I explained her hands would get cold, she kept insisting, so I took them off...then she started to cry because her hands we're cold, I said '' you see, when you don't wear your mittens your hands get cold''. She got it ;) but she had to experience it to understand...

If I'm just going from house to car, car to store, etc. I don't worry about it anyway. If you're going to be out for a while, I'd try gloves. My kids actually like gloves and even want to wear them inside.

i just let him see...before i hid his sandals he wanted to wear them. We'd walk from the door to the car and he'd say my toes are cold mama. I said yes dear, I told you it's cold outside. Give the option. When he's ready he'll put them on realizing it keeps him warm.

we've got my son the mittens that hook through his jacket and while he sometimes takes them off I never have to look for them and i keep putting them back on. As for gloves, my son takes those off just the same and finding and appropriate size for him took alot of timem, and we still lost them on walk.

I don't live somewhere that you use mittens, but I can imagine that mittens would be torture for a toddler. Can you find gloves in his size? That might work.

Oh that's tough. Have you tried gloves? Maybe he just doesn't like mittens because he can't move his fingers. Most toddlers are like that. My daughter would do the same thing. I got her gloves and then it was fine. Plus with toddlers mittens don't exactly stay on as well. Try it and see.
