My 2 1/2 year old son has a slight speech delay. He has "full sentence conversations" you just can't understand what he's saying, which frustrates him as well as myself. He says single words, some without issues others you cannot understand what he is saying. Today he had a hearing test. Left ear is fine other than a depressed ear drum probably from the issues with the right ear. His right ear has fluid build up and he was not registering lower frequencies. The Audiologist and ENT are recommending tubes in ears due to recurring fluid and to see if it helps in with the speech delay. They are also recommending an adnoidectomy, which I have no interest in doing at this time. They are recommending it because the adnoids could cause issues with fluid build up. If it is still an issue in the future I may consider an adnoidectomy. What are your opinions and/or experiences with tubes in ears. Thanks

I had tubes put in my ears several times as a child also due to recurrent fluid build up. As I recall, it worked quite well and was relatively pain free. It also reduced the number of ear infections I got drastically.

hi there, getting the adenoids removed and tubes inserted will be beneficial. Since my son has had tubes, adenoids and tonsils removed he has been eating more, sleeping better and is catching up with his speech delay. And the best part is he is not getting sick as many times anymore...

I am just leery of him being put under for a longer amount of time. And no, they did not mention a tonsillectomy
