We watch about 3 cartoons in the morning and he is allowed to play his video games for about an hour twice a day. It's a good break for both of us. Especially being newly pregnant I have to use the things I have to entertain him because I literally cant. We do practice letters numbers telling time and things like that during the day so I don;t feel bad about it.

It surely will depend on the age of the child. You should keep the television out of your child's bedroom and turned off during meal times.Rather than sitting down to watch whatever happens to be on, carefully select the program your child's going to watch, and turn off the TV when that program is over. Record programs ahead of time, if possible, so your child can watch what you want, when you want.
Children who watch violence on TV are more likely to display aggressive behavior. Stay away from scary shows, too. Instead, choose simple programs that emphasize interactivity. The best shows are those that inspire your child to makes sounds, say words, sing, and dance. Educational programme is way better, so if your child is still a toddler two hours per day is better as to avoid over exposure to television as this could lead to attentional problems in the future.

I let my 13 month old watch a total of about 30 minutes a day. When I'm watching a program, if I notice that she is paying too much attention to it verses playing, I turn the tv off entirely.

my child hates t.v (he's 13months) and i think it depends on the age... and i know some people say not to let kids watch t.v ever but sometimes i wish my son would watch t.v so i could have 5 seconds to breathe!I say 30mins a day at 1 and 30mins more for each 6months
