I have a two and a half year old that has all of a sudden become difficult to put to bed. For the last 3 weeks I have been sleeping in his bed because we weren't getting any sleep because he kept getting up in the night. Last night I put him to bed (teeth, story, song and snuggles) and closed his door (I left a light on for him) he fell asleep at his door so I picked him up put him in bed. Then when he got up in the middle of the night I told him I love him but go back to bed (I kept his door closed). I feel like I am locking him in his room and causing some kind of emotional damage. I guess I am wondering if I am doing the right thing?

Is he crying, and how long is he crying for if he's crying? The more I tried to push my son to be independent the more dependent he came. So with my daughter I lay with her till she's asleep, if she wakes up in the middle of the night she just gets into bed with us. Both of my kids would freak out if I were to close their door.
