My 14 month old daughter started crawling a little before her first birthday which some people thought was late we were very worried and ecstatic when she finally did. Now we have a new problem she doesnt even try to walk she cruises for a while along furniture etc but sits down quickly as she is tired. She takes her hip out when I hold her hands to get her to push the walker or hold my hands and walk and sits down after a few steps. HEr Nursery is suggesting she has low muscle tone and we need to see a therapist. Im on the verge of breaking down and crying since I read up on it online and it sounds like a terrible thing for a baby to have. She also doesnt have any teeth yet !! so gags on some of the chunky food gagging also a low muscle tone symptom... my baby is such a charmer she batts her eye lashes and you can instantly fall in love with her... what am i doing wrong. Im such guilty mom... ok tear drop one is here i shud quit typing...

I agree with Amy. Your daughter may just be one that does things at a later age. Most of the time doctors don't get concerned over walking until 18 months. It is good to have an open mind and to check into things if you think there might be a concern. It is always better to get help early as often times kids caught up over time. The internet has lots of information and can be very informative, but can also give you information that is not needed as well. I recently read a blog from a pregnant lady. She was 24 wks along and one day started having brownish discharge. Of course it was the weekend, so she went to the internet for information. By time Monday came she was scared to DEATH!! She called her doc and doc said nothing to worry about. She had done a lot of activity over the weekend (more then normal). A few days later it stopped and everything was fine.
Moral of the story is to search cautiously. And then call your doc with your concerns. It is a good idea to have your doc look at her. If there is something going on it might be an easy fix. If there is nothing going on it will put your mind at ease.

As for the guilt......let it go in one ear and out the other. There is nothing you are doing wrong. Some kids just hit their milestones later then others and some kids need a little extra help in different areas. Look at it as if she was struggling with math or reading. Some kids get those things every easily. Some get them but it takes awhile before it all clicks. And some kids just need that little bit of extra help or a different way of getting their mind look at it and then it all starts to click.

My daughter didn't crawl in the traditional sense till she was 14 months old and the next day she decided she would stop cruising on furniture and start walking on her own. Is she tired or is she just lacking confidence. If you are truly concerned I would start by setting up an appointment with your pediatrician, they can recommend the next steps.
