My son will be two in May. Since he was about 6 months old he's had this habit of rubbing my face as he falls asleep. At first I thought it was just something cute that he would grow out of but it has only gotten worse, like it's obsessive. He HAS to be rubbing my face as he falls asleep, and if he wakes up through the night he will freak out and say "I want face I want face." I didn't really know what to think of this until I came across a post from a friend on Facebook talking about her child possibly having SPD. Now Im wondering if maybe that's whay it is....
Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds more like a soothing technique he picked up and became accustomed to. My son loves to suck his thumb and if he wakes up at night and realizes his thumb is not in his mouth, he immediately pops it back in. Some children need their pacifier and will cry if they don't have it. Other children use a stuffed animal or blanket for comfort. This does not mean that they have SPD. You may have to get creative to figure out how to ween him off of this comfort, though. Unless you don't mind running into his room to put your face under his hand overtime he wakes up, but I'm sure you'd like some sleep. Maybe try to get him a doll or stuffed animal with a face that has a material similar to skin and have him rub it instead. I would only suggest looking into SPD if there were obsessions with touching other objects and not only at sleep time.
