I have a boy who is turning three in January. He seems to wake up once a night... mostly looking for a soother..
i have been giving it to him but dont want to create a bad habit. should i just ignore his calls?

In my opinion, if your baby has a need (like needing mommy in the middle of the night) it shouldn't be ignored. If just to whisper that you're there and rub his back to get him back to sleep, then by all means do it! Also consider if there have been any changes to your lives lately? New caregiver, playmate not around, moved, lost pet, back to work? Anything like that could be causing him some stress and the night waking. Letting him know he doesn't have to deal with it alone or just that you are there when he needs you should help with settling him back into his prior sleeping habits. If all else fails, maybe consider letting him sleep with you or make a bed in your room so he knows you're right there while he's sleeping. Our son sleeps with us and I've hardly ever had a problem with night waking, and just know that at some point he will be able to sleep without you.
