We have been potty training my 2 1/2 year old son for 3 months now and he still has frequent accidents. Any advice or should i call his pediatrician?

we have been potty training he does not like the potty chair he played with it instead of using it so he uses the big potty and stands to pee and sits on a potty seat to go #2. He always tells us when he has to poop but never does when he has to go potty and has frequent accidents not everyday but often. We have been working on this for 3 months now. are we doing something wrong?

It will come. Allow him time. The pooping part is sometimes the hardest one to get. So he has the hard one out of the way. Allow him time to figure out his body and the cues his body gives him. What you can do is try setting a routine of potty breaks. So have him try right away when he wakes up in the AM, do another mid morning, one right before nap time, one right after nap time, one early evening, and then right before bed. This will help him get into a routine of going and trying. Have him try, but if he does not go....no biggie. You just want him to try. As he starts to figure it out and have less accidents then start allowing him to decide if he should sit or not. So at first I am just taking them and not asking if they have to go. Then once they start to not have as many accidents I start asking if they have to go and then only taking them if it has been a long time since they went. He will get it and it will come it just takes time. I often compare potty training to reading. You can't start out reading without learning the alphabet, then the sounds each letter makes, and then putting those sounds together. It takes time to learn all that. Same with potty training it takes time for them to learn their body and to listen to what their body is telling them.
