I have a 3-year-old and we stopped using the sippy cup a few months before her 3rd birthday. We only use them when we are going somewhere, in the car, etc. and it's usually ice water. We stopped the milk at bedtime bit when we realized she was constantly having to get out of bed to use the bathroom (we were potting training, transitioning from pull ups to big girl panties, and a bunch of other stuff at this time!) plus she was becoming dependent on milk for sleep...something that had became a routine but something we did not want her to rely on to fall asleep, especially since she was growing out of the baby stage.

We pretty much went cold-turkey on her and didn't give her a sippy cup of milk once she laid down. It took getting used to but she stopped having to get up to use the bathroom so much and started falling asleep without feeling the need for milk. She still gets milk but it's usually at breakfast time, an hour before bed with a cookie, or a special treat like chocolate milk.

Something I have found to work wonderfully is those stuffed animals with light up stars on their backs and it plays soft music (I found her's on Amazon $30) she loves having the stars project on her ceiling and the soft music plays for about 30 minutes which is just the right amount of time for her to fall asleep. Overall, I wouldn't put an age limit on when to stop the sippy cup but if it's affecting her teeth or anything else in a negative way then I would retire the sippy cup ASAP. Make using regular cups fun and encouraging (just like I'm sure you did when you transitioned from bottle to sippy cup) so she doesn't feel like she's missing something. Best wishes =)
