My son is 21 months old and he cannot say any words at all! He babbles, and will "say" mamma/Dada when babbling, but not "to" us. He can wave bye bye and he knows that night night means go upstairs.. and he asks for things by reaching for them. I have called Head Start, and they told me not to worry until he is 2, but I can't help being concerned about his delayed speech. His father is dyslexic.. could that have anything to do with it if he inherited the dyslexia? Is there anything else I can do to help it along? I already read to him and say the words to everything he comes in contact with, though he doesn't really pay much attention to either. Please help! Thanks!

My sister was the same when she was little, the doctor told my mom not to worry, it isn't because of learning issues, why does she need to talk when she can everything she wants and needs already.

You need to try and get him to use him words, pretend not to understand what he wants to help encourage him to start speaking, don't draw it out to much, you don't want a him throwing tantrums either, You can reward him with praise when he says words too.
