AS SOON AS YOU CAN. my son is 23 months and fully potty trained. some kids wont take an interest right away, but we made it a very gradual process. He was about 1 when we started, as he was walking and starting to talk by then, and i never forced him, just asked when i coiuld, and made it fun. eventually he just started taking off his diaper and walking to the toilet. I say its NEVER TOO EARLY. just keep them familliar with the toilet, or potty.

no two child is alike.... so watch your child and see if he is taking off his underwear when he is wet... then you know that he does not like wet... so try doing dry run to the bathroom.. when you have to go... just let him / her try after you have use the bathroom. they will get use to sitting down before you know they are doing their thing. thats what I did.

When you think they are ready and ask to have nappy off after going in it, is a good sign. Normally around 2 to 2 1/2

But i think a potty should be around from 18 months so they get idea of what its for :D

I decided to put a little update here. My son decided to go poop on the toilet a few days ago and hasnt had an accident since. But its only been a few days. He has been peeing in the the toilet for a little while now. He would refuse to poop. One day he ran to the toilet, i thought he needed to pee. He came up to me all excited telling me that i have to see the bathroom. At first i didnt know what to expect. I thought he might have decorated it with tissue paper or flooded it again. To my surprise he had pooped. Im soo happy. It just clicked with him one day.

I agree with the other ladies, when they are ready.

My youngest is 2.5 years and is just starting now. It does help that there are 5 other kids at daycare all toilet training at the same time so she wants to be the same as the other kids. We have been going well with very few accidents. I even went shopping on Friday and didn't have an accident.

One day it will just click.

I think when the child shows that they might be ready, sometime after they can walk but before 3. My son seemed ready right at his second birthday, but that's right at Christmas and I didn't want to try it with all the family gatherings and schedule disruptions, so I tried in Jan/Feb but I had missed the window of opportunity and it didn't work at all. He started throwing fits, wouldn't even sit on the potty, and developed a fear of toilets. So I backed way off and didn't even mention it for months. Then in September I tried again, just took off his pants and diaper and he got it immediately. He was 33 months old.

If you think your child might be ready, try it. You can always go back to diapers with no harm done and try again later.

Whenever you feel like your child is ready. I woud definty recommend teaching how to dress and undress himself first. I thought my son was ready at 3 months old. Boy was i wrong. But he learned to feel comfortable on the toilet. Sure he peed and pooped on it and i saved alot of money on diapers, It was just time consuming. It all fell apart when i went back to work the sitter refused to follow threw. My son is 4 yrs old now. I cannot pinpoint exactly when we actually started potty training he just decided one day that he wanted to pee on the toilet. So we took him out of diapers. However he still refuses to poop on the toilet.
