PS For the record, all viruses are contagious one way or another. Except internal viruses, such as those of the heart and other internal organs.

Croupe IS highly contagious and it is caused by viruses that are also highly contagious: such as flu virus and cold viruses.

Croupe is not contagious, your child will almost make the same sound as a walruss when they have it it's a real deep barking sound, that tends to happen more at night. A nice steamy bathroom can usually clear it up, or I always brought my kids out side if it's cold out and that will also help to open their airways, if it persits and you can't get it to go away call your doctor!

whooping cough is a bacteria causing heavy cold fever and a sort of whooping sound cough hense the name - in uk children are vaccinted against this. croup is a virus it is not contagious and causes a sort of hollow barking cough which is helped by steam as it opens the airways - both need to be seen by a doctor.

I know with Croupe you can help it by steaming up the bathroom and taking the baby in to relieve it a little....not sure on the hooping cough

isn't whooping cough a virus? I didn't think it was bacterial but it could be. I haven't done a lot of research on what causes it, I just made sure my son got the Pertussis vaccine since whooping cough can kill infants at a much higher rate than older children and adults.
