I am considering letting my 3-year-old boy use smartphone, only to get access to certain content in certain amount of time of course. I’ll allow educational games like ABC learning (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/alphabet... ) or Number learning by Vkids to be played, maybe YouTube, but I’m not so sure about the safety of the videos. Do you think that my son is too young for this amount of exposure to smartphone?

Well for us we have a 45 minute commute to school, so I allow him to use the Ipad in the car and he likes watching it while he eats dinner and then that's it, I take it away. If he asks, I just say no. In the car, I don't listen to music so I can always hear what he's viewing. That's why I had to do away with regular You Tube because there were bad versions of Mickey Mouse videos. I also use the Ipad to teach Spanish through a program called Muzzy. You are in control and whatever time you feel is too much, stick to that. Good luck!

I think 3 is fine. My son is 2 and uses an Ipad. There are a lot of excellent learning activities and videos that are great for reinforcing educational material. Just be sure to monitor usage and screen time. I would stay away from You Tube because you can't monitor that nor block videos there. However, on You Tube Kids you CAN! Good luck with your decision.

I've never thought about holding a phone can strengthen his muscle. Thanks for the information. But what do you think about the right amount of screen time?

Hey Monica, I think it is okay to use cellphone for a limited time. with this activity, his muscle will be stronger when he holds the phone.

Hi Ev,

I won't have my son spending all day on smartphone, of course.
I also bought toys and items for my kids, too. It's just that I want to add a little screen time in between for a change, maybe it can be more fun and interesting in learning. Do you think it's appropriate?

Hi Charissa,

Thanks for your comment.
I think so, too. It all depends on how we use that smarphones/ tablets become good or bad. But I want to know what kinds of material do you find useful for your kids if possible. Personally, I think that the games by Vkids (like the one I mentioned in my post) are very interactive and educational. And how can you control the screen time? Do you set a timetable or something like that?
