When is a good age to start potty training?

I have 2 boys: 17 month old and a 7 month old. Should I wait until my oldest turns 2 or start him now with underpants and the potty?

I have been trying to potty train my toddler since the moment she started walking, right before she turned 1. It was a terrible idea, she is 21 months old now and HATES the potty. I would say wait til they are ready, if they show no sign of wanting to use the potty, please don't push it otherwise they will never want to learn.

I would say start them when they are ready. They will show you signs when they are ready and what they are ready for. For some kids that is at 2 yrs and for others that is not until 3 yrs. I say potty training is much like walking. Each child does it in their own time and in their own way. You can encourage, but can't make them if they are not ready. Follow their lead....they are going to let you know what they are ready for and when. All kids get it and just like walking you are not going to know which one walked at an early age and which one was a late walker when they are older, so it really does not matter how fast or slow it takes them.

It's up to you when you feel the time is right. However the muscle for kids to control their pee isn't fully delovped till they are 2. Started my son at 1.5 with the naked method (underware fell like diapers). So he got to be naked and when he wouldn't make it to the bathroom, he had to help clean up the mess (but not get in trouble for it). He pooped on the floor ONE time and never again, peeing was harder. This worked cause he loves being naked, but you have to be willing to clean your floor and couches or anything else they play on or by. He also never liked the potty he only wanted to use the toilet. You have to find a good method that works for you and your kids. Really at first you are the one being trained to know thier body and showing them so when you are ready to take on tha challenge is up to you. Good luck!
