Whole milk and constipation?

We just started our one year old on whole milk and she is very constipated. She definitely gets enough water during the day so I know it's not that. Is she going to get over this, should we wait it out and is this normal?

Try 2% milk instead of whole. If that doesn't work, move on to Karo syrup, prunes, pears, apricots. If that doesn't work, try fortified Rice Milk. We had HORRIBLE problems w/ the constipation. Someone finally told me about the Rice Milk, and it worked like a CHARM!

We had that. We then went for about 2 weeks half formula half whole milk and slowly weened out the formula. When she gets constipated we would put either a little prune juice in his milk or just give him prunes at lunch or dinner. I swear by PRUNES!!!

If you do go w/ the Rice Milk, give it a week or 2 to work. Also, you can buy 1/2 gal. refrigerated or non-refrigerated at the store. I buy it at our local WalMart and found that the refrigerator cartons are cheaper.

I'm sorry for your little one. If she only gets constipated I would say try watering it down, start by 1/2 and 1/2 first if that works 3/4 and 1/4 water. Otherwises I agree with the other mother who said Rice milk or even Silk (Soy) Milk a little pricey but have children on both and seemed to help alot. We have milk allergies in our family and one of the first things the WIC said to me was boil some and try to give it to them. Because it breaks it down differently they may be okay. But my advice if you do that is only do enough of what she will drink in one day and dump it cause its only good 24 hours, because you broke down the fats and proteins in it. It will look like water real clear (if you have ever seem Rice milk thats what it will look like) It didn't work for me but maybe it will for you, Good Luck
