Why won't our 17m son go to bed?

Our 17 month old son will not go to bed. He will scream and scream until he pukes, and we HAVE to take him out and start the whole bed time routine over again. My fiance and I are at our wits end!

We have kept the same routine since he began to sleep regularly. He gets up between 7-8 around 10 he has a nap until he wakes up on his own. About 4 he has a second nap until about 5-530. We have dinner, and he gets a bath. afterwards we read to him, and take him to bed. We used to be able to walk with him to bed, but now he runs the other way bawling his eyes out. The only significant change is that we have moved from Virginia to Tennessee, and into a smaller home.

Thank you all. We actually discussed that just this morning and will try it today. I'll keep you informed.

Also, he apparently doesn't always sleep through the night. I'm told he was up 2-3 times last night.

I would try to push the morning nap back gradually and eliminate the late afternoon nap. You may find that you have to move bedtime up a bit till he adjusts. I was having this problem with my 2 1/2 year old so we stopped napping. If she does fall asleep we limit the time do that bedtime isn't a nightmare.

Sounds like you may need to knock out that later nap. My daughter did this for a while. Once in a while if she takes a later than normal nap she won't want to go to bed at bedtime.

@ Amy DePietro

He goes to bed at 8, and my fiancee says he has come down from 3 naps to too.

What time is he going to bed at night? It sounds like it may be time to give up one of those naps.
