for the last 3 days my 13 month old son has been a pain to put down for a nap. my boyfriend and i have been putting him down at the same time every night for his nap and he will sit in his crib for hours crying and rubbing his eyes and yawning. does anyone have any advice to help me out.

You're mentioning that this is an afternoon nap, right? Does your baby go down for a nap earlier in the day without problem?

Babies outgrow their need for daytime naps. He might be ready to ditch one of his naps, combine his morning and afternoon naps or go to bed at an earlier time.

Your baby sounds overtired. He also could be experiencing normal separation anxiety or think he's missing out on something. Is he eating and drinking more? This could be a growth spurt.

When my babies are upset, I go through a checklist:
change diaper
check for fever
change outfit into something more comfy (yes this seems like overkill -- but it often helps choose elastic waist pants or nice clean pjs)
offer food
offer a drink in your lap and cuddle your baby
ask your baby what's wrong and rub forehead close to their eyebrows which feels very good and they usually will close their eyes.
assess activity level (if they're cuddly and content, sit there and cuddle. if he's squirmy and wants to play, I'd pop him in the stroller and take him for a walk.)

My last ditch effort is always a car ride :)

I bet you know your baby better than the rest of us. I hope he settles down and you figure out what's going on.

why do you leave him in his crib, crying for hours? that seems a bit cruel. Try letting him skip the nap and see if he's ok without it. Try moving the nap to later, or try holding him/rocking him, laying with him until he falls asleep. Try something other than letting the poor little guy cry for hours!!!!

How many naps a day does he have? At 11 months my boy started fighting his morning nap. After a few days I stopped trying and he had an early afternoon nap instead or morning and afternoon.
