I have a 14 month old daughter who is pretty sick with the flu and an ear infection at the moment. Almost everytime Stevie get's sick she wont eat much. This time im lucky if she'll eat a tiny meal during the day she's only drinking about 1 bottle of milk she's not dehydrated but her being so sick and not eating has caused her to lose just over a kilo she has never lost weight like this before. Does anyone have any advise?

Not eating when you've got the flu is pretty common. Think about how much you eat when you're sick. Milk can be making her feel yucky too. What I do and have done with my daughters when they are sick is fruit popsicles (the ones with real fruit) and lots of other fluids within their reach at all times. If you're really worried go see your doctor, but chances are she'll feel better soon and start eating everything in sight.

My son got really sick last year with some sort of bug. He lost a lot of weight witch was worrisome because he is already a such a peanut. As soon as he felt better he pigged out and gained the weight right back. Think about when your sick as soon as your better don't you want to eat everything in sight? The important thing right now is to keep her hydrated. My son got dehydrated when he was sick and needed to go to the ER, it was very scary. Anyway, I hope your daughter feels better.

When my son is sick he won't eat either. Offer her favorite food, even if its ice cream. My son sustains on pancakes when he is sick. Not the healthiest, but, it is much needed calories.

how long has your daughter been ill for. my 22 month is ill with a chest infection n flu on top he isnt eating either but is drinking loads of water he will have breakfast lunch n dinner but his only managing a couple of spoonfuls then his had enough. its quite normal but with your daughters age have u heard of dioralyte wen my son would not eat anything thts what he would have it stops sickness n the runs but its also good for replacing nurtients n minerals. the child has lost. you just add it to water.

My son's pediatrician recommends using a medicine eye dropper to force the child to get liquids in them. Even though they don't like it and it will break your heart to see them cry, it is better then them ending up in the hospital for dehydration. Give her a medicine dropper full of fluids every 10-15 mintues round the clock. Do NOT let her get dehydrated. Also try to offer her an icecream milkshake. At this point when they are so sick it is best to give them whatever you know they love even if it is icecream. My son had the RotaVirus. When he went through that he didn't want to drink or eat at all. I took my doctors advice and pushed fluids into him round the clock. he fought me every single time and a few times I wanted to give up because I don't like to make him cry. But then I thought to myself I am not doing anything bad to him if anything I am helping to make him better. Hang in there. I hope she feels better soon.
