My son is 16 months old, and refuses to sleep in his crib, on a bed, or anywhere else besides his swing or his stroller. I've tried EVERYTHING, and it's getting to the point where its ridiculous. He has a big swing that has a soft back instead of plastic, and it almost looks like its hugging him which I think makes him feel secure, and it will hold him up to 35lbs, but I dont want him to be in it for that long! He had really bad reflux when he was an infant, and had quite a few colds where the doctor suggested I have him sleep in a swing to keep him in an upright position to help with the reflux, and the stuffy noses. Well he loved that soo much that now it's the ONLY place I can get him to sleep. We've tried the cry it out method, I've tried putting a mattress on the floor for him to sleep on (which to him is a toy, and he makes a game out of jumping on and off of it.), I've tried letting him sleep in my bed, I've tried falling asleep with him in the crib and then leaving once he's asleep and NOTHING works! He's stubborn and will stay up all hours of the night, but the second he's in the swing he's out like a light. I don't know what else to do! He's also a really light sleeper so letting him fall asleep in the swing and then moving him to the crib doesn't work either, because the second I touch him he's wide awake and ready to GO GO GO. lol. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him to sleep somewhere else besides the swing? He's getting too big for it, and it's driving me crazyy =( But then I look at it and think, someday I'm going to miss these days...HELP PLEASE

My Beth stopped sleeping in her crib at 10 months. She liked the dog bed better, and the dog sleeps with me, so she never used it. She also loves her swing, and 4 nights out of the week, she sleeps in it half the night. My 3 year old has a day bed, so some nights, the 3 year old is on one side & the 16 month old is on the other side.
Neither of my girls have EVER slept through the night.
I am sure he will grow out of it, have you tried making a pallet on the floor with a air mattress & blankets?
My 3 year old prefers the floor to her bed, she is on the floor most nights.

We had the same problem with our little one...at 11 months old he was stil waking up 5 times a night. He also had reflux and asthma and all that good stuff. Is he often snotty/stuffy and or coughing when he's on his back? If so ask your doctor about breathing treatments...he might still be a little uncomfortable on is back. Our pediatrician said it was the reflux that caused the ear infections and the congestion. She put him on Xoponex to get rid of the wheezing/coughing/snot and Pulmicort to prevent it...this all might have more to do with asthma than what yo are looking for. I know you said you already tried the cry it out method but it really was the only thing that worked for us. Did you read the Ferber Method book?? If that didn't work you could also try The Baby Whisperer (I know a few mos who swear by this, it just didn't work for us). Just remember a few things...because he's older it's going to take longer to break him of hi habits and you CAN'T GIVE IN!!! No matter what method you try you have to be consistent it may take 2 weeks or a month just keep at it. Also ask your pediatrician what they recommend!! Hope this helps a little!!
