My 17 month old daughter who would never take a pacifier pulls her hair out! The pediatrician said that she's doing that as a soothing mechanism but didn't really offer me any ways of making her stop. I've tried giving her furry stuffed animals, blankets, even my own hair but it just makes her mad.
She has natural curly hair but now I may have to cut it on one side to make it match the other side where she's pulled it all out!
Any suggestions??

I know you may not want to do this, but I had to do it with my son (I know it's different with a boy)... I had to buzz cut his hair. It's the only thing that stopped him from doing that.

Hi my little girl went through a stage of hair twirling, she would curl her hair round her fingers. You could try and get her to twirl instead of pulling, it drove me nuts but twirling would be better then pulling. Other then that maybe try getting her to wear a hat, covering the hair might take her mind off of it for a while. I would also consider talking to another Peads dr hair pulling isnt just a soothing thing it can be a sign of alot of other things also. If your not getting help form one dr try a second opinion it never hurts. Maybe even google some sites about childhood hair pulling, there would be some people out there going through the same things. Good luck and keep up trying different distractions
