19 months old terrified to walk

My daughter is 19 months old and is not walking yet. She walks holding on to our hand, but still very insecure. She has never crawled and never tries to pull herself up anywhere. She is a very smart and a happy kid, but careful to an extreme. She is scared to death if we let her stand by a couch on her own or even try to let go of her hand while walking. The doctor says not to worry at this point yet (meanwhile she is past 18 months).

Did anybody else have a similar situation? Did your child overcome his/her fear? I've never seen a child like that and I feel like I'm the only one out there. Meeting with other moms makes it even more difficult, since everybody things right away that something is terribly wrong with your kid.

Don't concern yourself with other moms. I can't stand when other parents act like if another kid takes a little longer to reach a milestone that there's something wrong. It's up to your child's pediatrician to make that assesment.

if she walks holding your hand them at least you know she can do it, if she's not a confident child she will just a little longer to find the courage to venture of by herself keep encourageing her, try to incorporate games where she walks between different people. she obviuosly just wants to feel safe. be carefull not to push her to hard as that may just set her back
