help needed from parents out there. My 2 1/2 year old will only go down for quite time but not nap time. We keep trying, we tried music, books, back rub but nothing is working, if he does not have a nap he is really cranky the rest of the day and falls asleep at 6 pm in the evening then wakes up at 5:30 am in the morning. anyone have any other suggestions?

Try laying in a dark quiet room and see if that works. I put blankets over my windows and it ALWAYS works with my two. If you lay them down alone, yet again **dark & quiet**

Also, if you have the gas and time, you can take him to play with other kids for a few hours. On the way home, dont take the shortcut. No music, should wind him down a bit. You may have an easier time laying him down after that.

my 2 1/2 yr old son won't nap in his bed but if I lay him down in the living room on the couch with a blanket and tell him he needs some rest and a nap he will eventually doze off - I'll take what I can get for nap time as he gets seriusly cranky if he doesn't sleep during the day and getting him to lay down in his room/bed is not worth the fight it takes every day to get him to lay down.

My daughter stopped napping at 2 1/2 and yes she got crabby but u just live with it .
Get her to be entertained and u shouldn't see a problem
Most kids out grow naps between 3 1/2-3 as they get ready for preschool so your kid is done with naps but quiet time works for you than do it

My husband and I got to the point where we would lay down with my son and literally wrap him up tight and snug in our arms. He fought and cried but then he'd fall asleep after a few minutes. He would sleep for 3 or 4 hours. He's almost 5 now and he no longer takes naps, but when he was 2 and 3 we had to be a little forceful to make it happen. It's hard, but it was so worth it. I'm sure most people will think that's a horrible thing to do, but it was the only thing that worked for us.

My son stopped taking his daily nap at about 2 1/2, but I still put him in his room and tuck him in and tell him it's nap time. I leave him in his room until nap time is over. Even if he gets out of bed and plays, some days he'll play for the first few minutes and then climb back into his bed and take a nap.

Our daughter would NOT nap at this age. I went crazy trying to figure out what to do. Only thing that worked was to keep her mind and body busy [no tv] and then she was mentally and physically ready for bed. Since we cut her tv down, she does so much better. she's 4 now and still naps almost every day. her room is still very dark and very quiet - although she has taken a liking to classical and jewel's lullabies and has them on really low at night.

My 2 1/2 year old doesn't take her nap now until later in the day, like 3 or 4ish. It's getting increasingly harder to put her down for an every day nap.

I would just give him "quiet time" for an hour and a half, don't get up to soothe him, even if he's crying. If you make any sort of what he may see as a "production" of taking a nap, he will test you continuously.
