My daughter is 2 and a half and wants me to carry her everywhere. She only seems to do it when she gets a bit tired even if she hasnt walked anywhere all day! She wont even sit in the trolley at a supermarket she just screams at me to carry her. I try ignoring her but just give into her after about 20 minutes cause it just seems easier to let her have her own way so she will calm down. I didnt mind so much before but she is getting a lot heavier now and im 6 months pregnant..its getting difficult! any suggestions??

I can totally relate my daughter is almost 2 1/2 and she has been like this for awhile as well. It is worse when company comes over or we go to someones house and when she is tired, and still sometimes at the store, but not as bad there as it was before. I think it is just a stage they go through and will grow out of it. Good Luck!

Our son is also doing that at the moment and is two year eight months. He used to walk for miles when we went for a walk along the river or whatever but now he wants to be picked up after only 5 minutes and hates going in the shopping trolley too! My husband will carry him for 5 minutes but then he has to get back in the trolley. Maybe carry him to the next street lamp or something then he has to walk.

I went through this with my son at about the same age. In his case it was obviouse he could walk anywhere just fine (he regularly goes hiking with his grandpa) so I just made the "rule" that he was too big now for Mama to carry. I have back problems and we are on the list to adopt babies anyday so I wanted to get past the tantrums before he was any bigger or the babies arrived. In the beginning I would tell him we could go sit down and I could hold him. That worked in the aspect of if he really wanted to get somewhere he didn't want to take the time to sit. Then we weaned him to asking for a "hug-kiss" and I would pick him up oblige and then he would walk after that. He still asks for a hug-kiss sometimes but is now fine with "Mama doesn't carry him." It's still a different story for Daddy though! ;-)
