My son has just turned 2 a couple of weeks ago and I heard that it is best to stop Vitamin D and start with reg 2% milk. You know as a mother you want to ask the pediatrician all these questions but it totally slips your mind lol. So any advice?

Thank you everyone for all your help. Dont know what I'd do without other moms! .

Now that your child is older he doesn't need as much milkfat in his diet. The only difference between whole milk and 2% is the fat content and calories. The amount of calcium and other nutrients are the same. I switched my son to 2% and will eventually start him on 1%. If he ever has a weight problem I don't want him to "hate" drinking skim.

Yes, you can switch to 2%. I have 3 kids, one who just turned 2 as well, and I counted the days till I could switch back to 2% (less fat for Mommy)! According to dr's., they need the fat in Vitamin D to help their brain development until they turn 2.

My daughter is almost 3 and still drinks whole milk. Now, she's pretty skinny, but my pediatrician says it's fine to keep giving it to her. Some kids don't like the 2%. If she were to start packing on pounds or something I would reevaluate the situation, but I don't think it's a problem unless your child has a weight problem. Doesn't look like it from the picture I see!!! Definitely ask your doc when you think of it, but I don't think you need to panic and call the doc right away to ask. if your son drinks the whole milk and likes it, I say..let them have it. However, that is one of the questions I asked when my daughter turned 2, and he said whole milk was still fine. Hope this helps!
