My 3 year old (will be 4 March 10) pees his pants..ALL THE TIME!!!! I am so frustrated I could scream. He will hold his pee until he's screaming and then pee in his pants because he's waited to long. Npw we're talking about a boy who was completley potty trained, so know's what he's doing..if you know what I mean. He will walk right past the bathroom and then pe himsself and then say I couldn't wait...I AM VERY confused and frustrated......Please help?????

Wow I can tell you're frustrated. I think the first thing - and probably hardest thing for you to do to relieve the frustration is to realize he's NOT doing this on purpose. He's not thinking in his mind, this will make mommy mad, or, I know she has somewhere to be right now and doesn't have time to change me.....

Its a process that is new to him, even if he was potty trained before. When he was much yonger and first started talking were there ever words said for a few days and then stopped saying them completely until he was talking more months and months down the road? That wasn't a frustrating situation, so you probably didn't take notice to it as much. At his age, repeptition is a key factor. Maybe while you were training him the first time around were you picking up more on him squeezing his legs together just before he needed to go? Or were you asking more frequently if he needed to go? Or were you making him try even if he didn't think he needed to go? You may need to go back to these simple strategies. It may seem tedious, but it's much less time consuming to stop and ask him or have him try to go that it is to have to clean him up and change a whole outfit. And, you may find yourself fighting with him less. Eventually, he'll get back in the routine of doing it on his own again.

Hi Tara,

Same DILEMA just my soon to be three year old pee's everywhere (except) the toilet! In the garden, through the sliding door, on the floor .....I think that they are just a bit amused by there new wetting device and will soon master the art.

Don't know if this will help but my daughter started peeing herself after being potty trained. My friend told me to leave her pants off. For some reason it worked. If she had pants on she would pee herslf, but if I let her run ariound in her underwear, she would go to the bathroom. Now this may not work for you as my daughter had only been potty trained for a bit when this happened. I think she forgot that she wasn't wearing a pull-up when her pants were on.
