5 year old daughter fussy eater hides food in her mouth for hours

help, 5 year old daughter and fussy eater hides food in her mouth for hours. My friends daughter has been doing this for years. She is a very fussy eater and is also tiny for her age and she is more tired than she should be. She will try to hide food that she does not like at the back of her cheek and hold it there for hours. She will not eat very many different food varieties and I am worried that she is not getting enough calories. She is on a multivitamin. I also think that some of this is a power struggle. My friend was brought up by a very strict father and does not want to be to strict with her daughters.

The other daughter seems to be fine although she is also somewhat fussy.

Does anyone have any helpful ideas? She has asked the family Dr. about it, and the Dr. said she is OK. I think my friend should get a second opinion, or at the very least get her daughter to a pediatrician. I am very worried about her.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I wouldn't worry too much. My little boy would do the same thing for a while. He would actually chew on a piece of meat for 30 minutes after we left the dinner table. I knew he was at least getting some nutritional value from that. Maybe she'll take a multivitamin, or a pediatric nutrition shake ( like ensure)... or even ovaltine in her milk. Just persevere. She'll develop her own tastes.
