Any advice to get my son to feed himself?

My son is 18 months, he will hold cookies and eat them, but if I put anything else on his tray he looks at it like its alien to him and immediately throws it on the floor, like he's grossed out by the sight or feel of it. He loves finger food, as long as its not his own fingers touching it.

Also if I give my son a sippy cup when its empty he'll chew on it, if i put milk in it and try to even put to his mouth he will start crying, he wants absolutely nothing to do with it. I've tried the transition nipples for bottles and he laughs at me like I'm crazy and won't drink it. I've tried the sippy cup with the soft spout. I just don't know what to do.

Try giving him a spoon and you help feed him. That's what my husband and I had to do for my daughter for her to eat. And about the sippy cups, we had the same problem. So, we bought the Playtex cups and only offered cups. It was hard, but we didn't give in and eventually she was thirsty enough to drink out of the cup. And don't worry, kids learn by putting stuff in their mouths and chewing on it. It's a learning process. I hope this helps!
