Any suggestions for a 3 yr old that goes potty @ daycare but not @ home?

have special "potty" toys that he can only play with when he's sitting. Have him sit there for 5 or 10 minutes until he goes. Feed him salty snacks and lots of water to keep him needing to go. Take him to the potty every hour or so to try and tell him he did a good job trying even if he doesn't go. When he does go make it a big deal. Whoop and holler and do a potty dance. It's all about theatrics with kids...they love attention!

The only thing that we could come up with is that it is because he seen the other kids doing it. My 3 year is very smart and he knows what he needs to do. He told us that he would use the potty if it was ELMO so i got him an elmo seat and now he wont even look at it. I think its just the group at daycare and see's all the kids doing it so he does it. He will sit on the potty but then he says nope, can't do it mom. Thanks for all the help tho. We'll keep trying and i'll try that sticker chart. Thanks Again.

If your daycare is working on it, get down a schedule and work with the provider. I have 3 little ones and one on the way. My oldest was tough, but got it down. My middle one was done at the age of 2 and 3 months. My 1 year old is slowly getting it and refuses to poop in her diaper. She can stay dry all day with mybe 1 accident, but she is told to go potty every 2 hours to get her in routine. my sitter lets me know when she last sat on the potty and I go from there. If all else fails, do like I did my first and get a ziploc bag of gummy bears or something, and tack it to the was high enough they can not reach(in the bathroom) so they see it when on the toilet, and know the reward when they do go.

I'm having the same problem. My son will be three in Jan. He goes great at daycare but as soon as he gets home he could care less.

Have u asked the daycare provider what they do to get your child to use the potty? All i can think of is he/she is probably seeing other children doing it and wants to do it as well. Try a sticker chart...I let my son put a sticker on a chart for every time he used the potty...worked like a charm. Good luck
