I was thinking about joining a play group for my 15 mth old, but I wanted to know if anyone else had good experiences

Yes they can be great depending on the leaders and other parents. Try a whole bunch of different ones and then decide which one to join. The one we go to goes for 1.5 hours and they have free play, morning tea, crafts, singing and dancing etc so there is plenty to do. I have met a lot of friends thru playgroup and our son has changed from being stand-offish and quiet to confident and he loves it each week. It is also good for them to interact with different age children from babies to 5 year olds. Our playgroup is affiliated with a church so there is also support, advice, a library etc if you want it too.

Well I guess it could be if the children were around the same age. I have a 15 month old daughter and she never gets any interaction with children only adults (so you can imagine how boreing her life must be, plus she doesn't really talk yet either).....if you happen to find one, I'd try it with you.
