At what age did your child/ren completely stop napping?

My 2 1/2 year old has not napped in over a week now. We put him to bed using our usual routine, but no sleeping for him! I think he is a bit young to not nap at all. I thought this might happen a little closer to age 3.

I think nap time is very important. It helps the child revitalize. I find it also helps there mood. I have two children 3 and 9 months. Both nap everyday. I also watch other children in my home and they are required to "rest" until they go to kindergarden. I keep the kids pretty busy, so they need it. Good luck.

my little boy stopped having a nap threw the day not long after he turned 1. He went from having a morning and afternoon nap for about an hour each to not having a nap at all.

Even if your child doesn't take naps anymore, I think it's wise to still have "nap time" when you put him in bed every afternoon at the same time.  Even if he doesn't go to sleep, he'll still get some quiet time and you'll get YOU time.  My mom did this with all of her kids, clear up until past kindergarten.

My son is 2 1/2 and he's starting to phase out his naps. I still try to get him to sleep but most of the time he'll just play in his room.

My son just turned 2 and he still takes a 2-3 hour nap every afternoon. I have a 3 1/2 year old niece who also still takes a daily nap. I think it depends on the energy-level of the child. If they are very active and burning a lot of energy during the day, they will be more likely to require naps.

Hi Marianne! My son stopped napping consistently at about 2 years old. I still put him down at the same time every day after lunch, but most days he just plays for a while in his crib. On no-nap days, I put him to bed about a half hour earlier. For a couple of weeks, I would go into his room after a while and tell him (in a stern voice) to stop talking and go to sleep. That worked for a while, but he hasn't napped three days in a row now, so it's losing its effect.

I'm in exactly the same situation. My son is 2 1/2 and nine times out of ten he has not napped for about a month. I still put him in his room and he will stay in there for about an hour with no fuss. I too find 2 1/2 alittle young for not napping anymore especially since he only sleeps about 10 hours at night. My daughter was just over 3 when she stopped napping.

My daughter is 2 1/2 as well. She has not napped for a really long time now, a few months. Of course there are days when she does end up taking a nap because she is just so played out, but those days are few and far between. I was pretty surprised too when she stopped napping! I think it really depends on your daily routine whether your child will nap or not. Best of luck to you!

I think it is up to the parent and child, I have always listened to my children some days my 11 month old doesn't have a nap but some days my 4 year old does. I think if they are having tantrums as they are over tired they should be encouraged to sleep but if they don't need it let them stay up. Your his mum and you know best. Take Care
