Bad toddler behavior with vistors

I need some advice! I have an almost 4 year old boy. At home he is mostly well-behaved, plays well with me and alone. I praise when he shows good behavior and punish the bad. But I want to pull out my hair when we have visitors at the house. He acts out badly, does not want to share, does not listen to me, yells, is grumpy, hits me, very un-social. Before someone arrives he says hes happy and excited, but when they walk through he door his behavior immediately changes. We have talked about it before they come, I punish bad behavior, and praise the good. t seems to be more then an attention thing.I don't know what to do!

My son was like that, it took socializing outside and inside our home. But in our house, we would babysit, no adults over it was too much to have adults at first. Then when he saw the benefits of a playmate, we had their parents come with the kids for dinner ect and we sat in another room while they played. It's a process and you go at your child's pace. These days he's great with others coming over ect, the only issue I have is when I try to show something educational to another child, my son tries to take over and get that attention from me. He's a bit territorial about special time and education, but I'm sure maturity will come.
