My 14th month daughter used to love bath time and is my favorite part of the day but recently we have been having some problems. 1st she wants to stand up in the tub and throws tanturms when I sit her down and won't let her stand. Any ideas how I can break this habit? Also she now starts screaming when I wash her hair. I cover her forhead with my hand so she doesn't get water or soap in her eyes but she tries crawling out of the tub and just screams til I take her out. Any ideas on how to get fun bath time back. I miss it!

My daughter did the same thing....we added more toys to the tub, let her pretend she was swimming in the tub, gave her a washcloth so she could "wash" herself, and Wal-mart has these great little cups with a flat side to use during bath time that worked wonders. (keeps water/soap from running down her face) you can find them in the baby section. :)

try putting something on the ceiling (above the tub) that interests your child, stickers or such. Then when you go to wash her hair tell her to look up at it. That way her head is tipped all the way back and the water won't get into her face. I've started to do this with my son, and my Mom used to do this with me when I was little! Make up a story to go along with it so you keep her distracted! As far as the standing up in the tub goes, as long as you are nearby what's the harm?

Oh & I don't really use bubbles. They make things more slippery and my son has some mild eczema so it's really not good for him anyway. I just wash him with Aveeno wash but I don't put anything in the water. But he walks back and forth the whole time. I guess once they've found their footing, sitting down is just too boring for them.

Yes, I keep a rubber mat in the tub too. My son does slip occassionally, but really very rarely, and I'm always there to catch him (plus he's pretty good at catching himself now too).

If your daughter wants to stand and take a bath buy a rubber mat you get that anywhere. I just bought one from The Bay it was on sale for $ 5 (CAN)

The letting her stand part actually helps alot. I just don't want her to fall.

Maybe get in the tub with her & wash your own hair too? They generally like to copy what we do.

My son always stands. I just let him and stay close to catch him when he slips. Doesn't happen as often as you might fear though. I have no idea what you could do about washing her hair. Sorry, probably not very helpful.

Have you tried giving her some toys in the bath. I bought an ABC pack from walmart it sticks to the tiles and my daughter ( who is 20 months) likes playing with it. Try some squeaky toys. Regarding her hair hold her in your lap facing you wash her hair and then put her back in the bath tub. I hope it works for you.
