he bed time was 9pm - 10am and nap at 2-4pm and bath/quiet time was at 8pm... With our schedule it works best if he goes down at 9pm because my husband works for 7am to 3pm and doesn't get home until 4pm and if we have to shop after eating he would be missing his bedtime alot.. and plus we often go to his or my parents in the evening, so if i would put him down at 7:30 or 8:30, my husband/my parents would never see our kids.. I'm a stay at home mom and I also have a 2 month old son...

Nine o'clock seems very late for a 21 month old! At this age he should be having one nap in the day for no longer than an hour and a half normally straight after lunch. Try and get into a routine of 7.30pm wind down time where you either read to him or play jigsaw or something calm 8pm quiet calm bath and then bed at 8.20pm. He should learn the routine and realise what is expected of him. You have more chance of getting him to sleep if he is relaxed before he goes to bed. If he is playing with his cot then maybe it is time for a cot bed or junior bed but you will then have the problem of keeping him in his bed. Start with the change of routine and see if that helps before you move him into a big bed as this is too much for him to deal with in one go. Just remember a two year old needs 12-13 hours total sleep day and night so if he is sleeping for longer than 1.5 hours in the day this will have an effect on his night sleep. Good luck
