My 3 yr old son has been biting & chewing on his fingernails lately to the point that the bleed and are starting to get infected. Does anyone have any suggestions to get him to stop this? I keep his nails trimmed regularly so I don't know what else to do.

my son was doing the same thing! it's awful! there is a product out called Thum , it's spelled exactly like that. it's for thumb sucking and nail biting, you paint it on like a polish and it tastes like cayenne pepper! My mom used it on my sisters binky's because she was 4 and wouldn't let them go! it works great just put it on once a day and I promise he won't want to bite his nails! my son finally stopped, it took about a week of using the stuff but his nails look so much better now! remember it's called "Thum" and you should be able to find it at any drug store! good luck!

Thanks. I do the same, I tell him to quit everytime I see him doing it. I was going to check into something to put in his fingers.

There are enamels that you can put on that tastes bad. My daughter did the same. She didn't realise she was doing half the time I don't think. I ended up getting persistent and told her not to bite her nails every single I caught her. I got her Dad, Nanna and Pop to do the same. After a month or so I think she got fed up with it because she stopped completely.
