Hi, I was just wondering at what age children should brush their own teeth. I have a son who is 3. I still brush his teeth with a little rubber finger brush and the non-flouride toothpaste. Sometimes he will pick up a toothbrush and do it himself and then I do it again.

Thanks.

Ok well its what ever you feel but my 3 year old was brushing her own teeth at 1 and my son who is now 20 months he brushes his own teeth as well.  I think its ok to say that your son should brush huis own teeth.  If he doesn't want to show him when you brush your teeth kinda make it a game for him.  Little boys love to do everything that daddy's doing.  Good luck.

Well my boy is a 2 1/2 and he and I both brush his teeth. I use a childrens' toothpaste and I let him try (as I sing or brush my teeth) and then I ask himto let see how good he did, and I brush his teeth again.

It has worked for us! I've been doing this since he wa about 1 (he had a mouth full of teeth early), and he is actually getting better at it. I find the mirror really helps him too!

Good luck!

My daughter is 13 months old and has been trying to brush her own teeth since 7 months old. I found that giving her her toothbrush with a little bit of toothpaste on while I was brushing my teeth helped, as she watched what I was doing and tried to copy. She's still not doing it right but is still trying. Good luck
