Where should my front facing carset be? Middle, driver side or passager side of the car?

Studies have show that the safest place for a car seat (both front facing and rear) is the middle of the backseat. The reason being less impact from side collisions and also if the front seats were shoved back during a head on collision. Both my husband and i have our carseats in the middle. However, if that's not possible, behind the passenger seat is good because it lets you keep an eye on your child.

The best spot for a carseat is in the middle, but if your car can not have the carseat in the middle for whatever reason then the second best place for the carseat is behind the passenger side. This is for rear facing and forward facing car seats.

I think it's all preference really. I have heard though that basic instincts, while driving, are to protect your own side. So, if your driving, your instinct when in danger is to protect yourself. If your child is on the other side of the car you won't be protecting them. I have two boys though so their car seats are on both sides. Neither of them are in the middle.

We have ours on the passenger side. It's just easier that way when I'm driving. I can look back at our son and help him out if need be. I'm sure it's different for everyone. However I don't quite understand the parents who put their children in the middle, seems a bit unsafe IMO.
