i give my son plenty of yogurts and i have lactulose on hand just in case,my doc told me to apply vaseline on his rear end to help the stools slide out as the longer they dont go the stools harden inside and are more difficult to pass, hope this helps.

I use glycerin suppositories if my sons (15 and 32 months) don't go for a few days. It lubricates everything down there, so that it does not hurt when they need to go. They like prune puree (puree dried prune with some water) a lot, and that always helps.

My son is almost 17 months old-had on and off constipation since he turned a year old when I started weaning him off breastmilk. Our doctor told us to put dark Karo corn syrup in his juice-used prune and plum juice. Now he's on Lactulose-a stool softener-prescribed by a pediatric gastroenterologist-before I took him there had to give him a suppository it was so bad-but the stool softener is working and he seems much happier.

We have had this problem off and on with our son who is now 3. From the time he was a baby he would kind of go back and forth from diarrhea and then constipation. Our pediatrician said if he goes 3 or 4 days with complete constipation we could use the over the counter Milk of Magnesia (ask your doctor for recommended dose), however I never had to go to that extreme. I like to go the natural route when possible before resorting to any types of medication. We to this day still just buy a pack of the Gerber stage one baby food prunes and feed him one container each day along with applesauce as well as yogurt. It's always worked like a charm within a day or two he would finally get it out! I recommend always having the baby food prunes on hand (prune juice i'm sure would work too), and try feeding yogurt on a daily or frequent basis as it is so helpful at regulating the digestive tract. Best of luck to you!

My daughter started having really bed constipation when she went to two bottles a day and still has trouble. I have found that a yoghurt a day keeps it at bay. She has a an adult size tub at morning tea time. Then after dinner she has a mini yoghurt icepole. She love it!

Plenty of water, especially at food time. If you 1 yr old is still on formula, or is breastfeeding, this fluid alone is not enough hydration if they are having regular food as well, so hydration is VERY important. A warm bath (can relax muscles and loosen stool) and a clockwise massage around the belly button. Fresh pear is good for constipation, and so is pear juice. You could also try adding some brown sugar dissolved in water to your childs' drink.

Our doctors told us to give our constipated baby prunes and juice. We also supplemented her formula with "Pediasure with Fiber" which really helped also.

My Daughter is 23 months and has had very bad boughts with consitpation over the last 6 months. I took her to the Dr. and she told me to give her Miralax. A 1/4 cap full in whatever she is drinking everyday until she was going regularly. Then every other day, and lessing the dose the better she was going. We very rarely use it now, but when she does get constipated i have it on hand! I swear its amazing! Its NON addictive, and she doesnt even know she is drinking it.

When my son was about 2 or 3 , he was constipated for a week or more. The dr had me give him a quarter to a half of a benefiber tablet. It worked after a few days.

hemp hearts worked for my 6 year old after spending almost 6 years with very sever constipation. he would go for 2 weeks without pooping and would scream anytime the feeling would come. lactulose, enemas and other remedies did nothing. we started giving him hemp hearts in his yogurt every morning about 3 weeks ago and suddenly he was going everyday like clockwork.

Hi Melissa my son is 3 and he has always had trouble with constipation really bad, he would go nearly a week trying to go and nothing would happen. He was having lactulose alot, which would help in the end, but the main thing is that he drinks alot like Pam said, I make sure my son has plenty of water to flush everything out. Also you might want to try cutting certain foods that make it worse out of his diet or not giving it so often, my lil' boy used to love his egg with his soldiers for breakfast but now I only let him have them every so often because he would be worse. Hope you find a solution that works soon because its horrible seeing them with constipation
