Could it be Meningitis?

My 20 month old son has been sick for the last 5 days. It started on Thursday afternoon with a very high fever (103.8). It was bedtime before I could entice him to take some Tylenol. The fever seemed to go down. In the morning he seemed fine. Then by early afternoon, his fever was back up again and he was very irritable. He just wanted to cuddle. Normally he is a VERY active boy. He also had a couple diapers with diarrhea. He was still eating and drinking so I figured it would most likely be gone fairly quickly. I managed to get some Tylenol into him while he was sleeping and he slept through the night. He was good again on Saturday morning, then by 11am, his fever was back up, he had more diarrhea, he didn't want to eat or drink anything (normally this is not a problem). He wouldn't let my husband or I put him down. He only slept for about 30 mins for his nap. I took him to the ER and the doctor said she thought it was a gastrointestinal infection. He actually fell asleep on the bed in the hospital while waiting for the doctor when normally he would be wanting to climb on everything or run around...so not like him! She said to give him Tylenol by suppository. His fever went down and he slept through the night and had a great day yesterday. He was cranky, but still pretty good. This morning his temperature was good, but he was very irritable. He wanted to be held, wouldn't eat or drink, and has developed a rash all over his upper body, including his face. It doesn't seem to be itchy. He is also acting like he has a headache as he won't let me rub his head, which he usually loves. He keeps going to the couch and pushing his head up against it and crying like it hurts. Then, he went to his room, climbed into bed, and fell asleep...he has only done this once before when he was sick. His fever has also come back, but not as high as it was. I have an appointment for him this afternoon with the doctor, but I am wondering if anyone else has ever had an infant that had Meningitis. Does this sound like it could be that or am I worrying needlessly? He also has been harder to wake up than usual and has had very cold feet, even with socks on. Help!

It ends up that he has Rotavirus...quite a common virus among babies, toddlers and children. According to the doctor, the rash is the last symptom to show up with this virus and he will be over it in a few days. Thank goodness!

Most children when sick want their parents to hold them and sooth them. It could be but it could also just be the flu. The rash could be a heat rash from the fever and crying, a cool cloth usually helps with that. As for the harder to wake up... He could just be in that deep of a sleep. The more they sleep when they are sick the sooner they get better. Just give him Tylenol, from the details it should like he has a headache
