i noticed my two year old had some cradle cap so i put baby oil on his head and then started combing with a fine tooth comb. when i found a pretty bad patch and started going over it his hair fell out where the cradle cap was and left a bald red spot. has anyone else experienced this? kind of freaking me out

Dont use any oil except maybe grapeseed oil, the oil molecules are too big to penetrate and dont do anything except build up and can make it worse, you need to get a peppermint or tea tree shampoo especially for cradle cap and then let the kids soak in the tub with the shampoo on their head and take an old toothbrush to massage gently and should be gone in a few days, do this 3 times a week, try not to pick at it as they can get bald spots from it. I'm a hairdresser, can you tell?? lol!

Make sure that you rinse the soap out of his hair really well because cradle cap is usually a result of leftover soap drying out the skin.

thank you so much to all who have commented. it has helped ease my worries. he's had cradle cap before and the baby oil-combing method usually works great. it just worried me that hair fell out just in that one spot. circular size about the size of a small button. thank you so much!!!

my son got cradle cap really bad on the entire top of his head... we were able to comb it all out and get rid of it but along with the cradle cap all of his hair fell out on the top of his head... he is only 4 months old so while I think it is horrible that he is bald, most people dont even seem to notice... my husband called his grandmother who is a nurse and she told us that it is caused by the same thing that causes dandruff and as long as we were moisturizing and cleaning his scalp it would go away and not really affect him.

Try warm olive oil and just massage it in and let sit for a while before combing and just be gentle...if getting worst see a dr.

My son has gotten cradle cap now and then it seems to help to put a little baby oil and gently rub it on his scalp wait a short while and then shampoo it out. brush his hair afterwords and the flakes from the cradle cap should fall out as u brush.

I had this happen the other day with my neice I about fell over. The pediatrician's office had me speak with a nurse & she said it was fine. The still have very baby fine hair. She said that if it is a dry flake and in a circular shape then to think about bringing her in because it could be ringworm of the scalp. This wasn't ringworm thankfully but def. a great thing to know for the future.
