Daughter gets scared when she poops on the potty...Why?

[deleted account] ( 3 moms have responded )

Hi all, I’m in need of some potty training advice. My daughter has been doing really well with potty training lately, and yesterday was the first time she pooped on the potty. She pooped 3 different times, and each time she got really upset and cried! I think she stopped before she was done, which is probably why she went 3 times in one day. I consoled her and told her what a big girl she was, and she got her potty-training treat each time and seemed to get over it rather quickly. She doesn’t have constipation issues, and she poops in her diaper with no issue, so I think it must scare her for some reason. Any ideas why, and what I can do to help her not be scared?

I also posted this in another forum and got this response: "This is really common, children often feel that part of their body is falling out, try getting a small insert seat for the toilet you can also try using the blue bowl cleaner this will 'hide' when shes gone, celebrate, flush and eventually you will not need the blue stuff, you can also go to the library for references or picture books. good luck."

So that's encouraging! Thanks for your replies!

I dont have an answer but wanted to see the future answers on here if anyone has any.

My 2.5 year old will pee on the potty but will NOT have any part of sitting down and pooping. Its so frustrating. I keep telling him that poo poo (as he calls it) goes in the potty but he just doesnt want to do it..

I haven't potty trained my child yet. But I have read that sometimes kids get upset when they poop because they think they are loosing a part of themselves, or it may hurt to poop.
