Do you take your runny-nose kid out in public? I tweeted and blogged about it -- and am really curious to what moms here think. http://tinyurl.com/bx3czo

I will take my children out if it's grocery shopping and they can sit in the cart. I will not go to a play place... even though most of the toys are probably full of germs, I don't need my kids catching something else while their immune system is fighting a cold-- and I need to be right there to wipe their noses. I can't stand looking at kids whose noses never get wiped.

If it's a playdate at someone's house, I will tell them that my kids have a cold, and that we can reschedule. If they want to keep the playdate as is, then I will go, but at least I know it's okay with the hostess. If my kids have a fever, then I keep them in.

Quoting Wendy:

Do you mean, do we take them out with colds?   If I have to take him out because I need to get groceries or something essential and no one else is home to watch him, then yes. If I have a playdate, then I have a three day rule....someone told me a long time ago, that after three days, a cold is no longer contagious.

I like that idea of a three-day rule!

This blog post explains what happens. Basically, I "scared" some moms at the gym child-care -- and then set off some moms on Twitter.
