My little one (2 1/2) has had a few bad dreams, but they are usually quickly solved with a hug, a kiss and some snuggles.

I have heard that the quicker you can soothe them the easier it is to get them back to sleep, but she is never more then a few inches away from me when she sleeps so I have never had a chance to test that theory.

I'm not sure what toddlers have nightmares about and DD can't tell me (she actually tells me she doesn't know), but I do know they have very active imaginations and that can create all sorts of things in their little heads.
Just soothe her and let her know that you are there for her.

I do know that it isn't really caused by what most people think of as "scary things" like ghosts, monsters or things like that, DD isn't scared of any of those things. It seems to be that being afraid of those things seems to be a social norm, but that's something they have to learn, kind of like being afraid of the dark. Babies aren't born with a fear of the dark, it's something they learn.
