My 16m old can speak in 2 word phrases, stand, squat and stand up again, but just won't take a step.

I am a speech therapist, and I work closely with occupational and physical therapists. If I had a 16 month old that was not walking I would insist on a PT/OT evaluation ASAP. There might not be a problem, but if there is a pediatric OT/PT/ST could start working on it. It has been my experience that early intervention is great, and can help avoid problems later on.

Be happy they aren't running yet! My son started running (I swear he didn't walk) since he was 10 months old. I wouldn't be too worried about it, every child does things in their own time. My son didn't talk that much until just recently, and he is 22 months old.

Your's sounds like mine.  She didn't crawl until 11mos, but when I took her for her 15m apt. the pediatrician told me that I need to make sure she has plenty of freedom to move around.  She is always on the move, but just won't walk.  She crawls like a speed demon and cruises like crazy.  She moves all the furniture around the house and her classroom and also pushes her baby stroller around everywhere at a high rate of speed.  I guess she just is stubborn!

hi my daughter was 18 months before she started. She started bottom shuffling at 12 months and could get to things she then started to stand but no inclination to walk or crawl. Then started crawling a bit and walking whille holiding on to her toys or us. But then while on holiday real developed her confidence in walking . Its difficult cause i had friends with children the same age or younger who were walking but they all do things in there own time. If he is able to stand he will proabably start soon. One thing i was told was to put things they want out of reach so they have to move to get them but it didnt work with my daughter as she would shuffle over. I know when i was worried lots of people told me there kids were the same and i dont think a health professional would be concerned till 18 months. I do have to say though its a total diffrent world when they do find there feet. Hope he is soon walking

my seventeen month old is still not walking. he will holding on to things but thats it. i was worried but then i realized he is gonna what he wants to do when he wants to do it. when hes ready he'll take off. My pediatrician says that if he isnt in a month that i have to take him to a neurologist but i say screw it. I refuse to let someone run a bunch of tests on him. Austin was twelve months old efore he started crawling so i figure he is just gonna do things on his own time. do you put shoes on him? because austin refuses to even take a step with his shoes on. Barefoot. I got him to take a couple steps by sittin on the floor with my legs spread amnd held him at arms legnth and let go. he was wobbly at first ut getting a little better. my son is very stubborn. dont push it doesnt help.
