i agree with holly, it could be asthma. My daughter who is 4 had a cough on and off for about 3 months. it got worse , we took her in and found out she has asthma. they put her on pulmicort the liquid for the nebulizer, and had her an abuteral twice a day for 3 days. she cleared right up and i haven't heard a cough out of her.

does she possibly have asthma? my son was very sickly, until he got diagnosed w/asthma. and, the only reason i thought of asthma is bc of the cough which he never got rid of. just a thought....

Stephanie, I feel your pain... my son has been so sick with croup/colds/flus/pneumonia.. this has been a particularly hard winter and you feel so bad for them.. i have daughter 11 mo. and son 2 1/2.. we have had eartubes, tonsil, adenoid removal, nebulizers etc and there is little we can do for them.. my daughter is better from the pneumonia but still congested - i can hear the crackling until she coughs.. it is so difficult, they don't cough productively, they can't clear their throats, they can't blow there noses, and we can not give them much beside saline, tylenol & motrin.. i sometimes sneak a little bendryl to help them sleep and i think it helps with the cough a little.. i have also learned that putting vicks on the bottom of their feet covered with socks - helps tremendously for their coughs.. try it.. i don't know why but it does help..
