My son will be 3 in August, I breast fed until he was 18 months, which lead to a family bed. My husband takes bedtime duty and every night is filled with tears and drama. My son has a big boy bed, fun sheets, surrounded by things he loves, night light too. Every night he cries, "I want to sleep in Mommy's bed." We praise him and make a big deal about him sleeping in his own bed but every night the same drama. What am I not doing?

I also had the same trouble with my little one. He is three and he didnt want to sleep in his own bed. Bed time was a big drama fest and lots of tears. So I started giving him a bath right before bed, then we went into his room to get dressed and ready for bed. We then sat on his bed and read stories. After I was done reading I gave him a few books to read and I said, this was story time. I told him he didnt have to go to sleep he just needed to stay in his bed and read for a bit. After about one or two books he was fast asleep. The idea of calling it bedtime was very stressful to him so I left out those words and just made the room very calming for him. I also got him a night light and put on the country station for him. It took a few nights to get used to it but now he goes to bed with out anytrouble. good luck and I hope this helps.

have you tried giving him a bath let him play for a half hour or so (quiet time) then make it sound exciting enough to make him follow you to his bed and lay down and read with him if he is into books and just lay there with him close your eyes and pretend to sleep in his bed with him until he falls asleep.
