Five year old boy still in Pull-Ups for sleep time, how do I train him to realize he needs to get up at night and go to the bathroom.

My 8 year old still wets the bed as well.  I have tried numerous things, such as pullups, but found that he was starting to wet them before he even got into bed.  I have tried not letting him have anything to drink after 5 pm, and waking him up at 11, and still, he wets the bed.  His father wet the bed until he was 13, and one of my brothers wet until he too was 13, and another till he was 10, as well as a sister until she was 11.  Sometimes it is genetics, like in my son's case.  There is nothing I can do other than wash his bedding and pajamas everyday and hope he outgrows it soon

If there are no medical conditions i would just take them away from him and have protective covers on the bed and prepare for some extra washing. After a few nights of waking up wet and cold he should get it but you need to be consistant.

Our oldest daughter had trouble with night time accidents. She had a regular bed time of 8pm at the age of 5 and when we went to bed at 11 we would wake her up to use the bathroom and as long as we did that, every night, she would wake up dry. She simply was a very heavy sleeper. Has you son any medical conditions to cause this? Some kids have small bladders. Other medical issues could play a role as well. You could always voice your concerns with his pediatrician the next time you are at the doctor's office with him as well.
