I have a 17 month old boy. I can get get him to eat Fruits or veggies. He wont even pick them up to put them in his mouth. I have tried mashing them but then I have to spoon feed him. Any suggestions on how I can get him to eat fruits and veggies on his own without spoon feeding.

Just keep trying the fruits and veggies in the mean time you can add mashed or pureed veggies to your meals.. I hide them in all sorts of foods.. I too have a picky child that doesnt eat much veggies.. my other one on the other hand loves his fruits and veggies.. oh Id also like to suggest does he just not like them cooked? my son never liked his veggies cooked until recently.. I would give them fresh out of the gardin or frozen(ya I know it sounds a bit weird) he loves frozen fruit as well.. maybe try that.. good luck

I thought my son would never moveon to solid foods. He was eating babyfood for ever. Like she said, just keep trying. Don't stress, and enjoy the time you spend together when you are feeding him. And be grateful you can still control what he eats that way. It's can get a lot harder. My son is still a picky eater but we keep trying and he is finally starting to try things. Don't give up!

He is still getting babyfood for fruits and veggies or applesauce, because it is the only way I can make sure he is eating them.  I would like him to start eating fresh fruits and veggies and I would like to have him feed himself instead of me spoon feeding him.

Just keep offereing them. Was he not a veggie and fruit eater before? If he was he is probably going through a picky stage. His age seems to be about when my DD went through her first one.
